Pray for missionary Brandon Kelley and I tomorrow as we go to the US Capitol Building and meet with Rep. Ben Cline and possibly other state leaders to pray with them and attempt to share the gospel with them and their staff. Pastors from every state around the country will be doing the same thing tomorrow as well. Pray that we bring the power and presence of God to Capitol Hill! https://awakeamericaonline.org/capitol-connection/
Praise the Lord that these bills have been defeated for now! If you are unaware of what these bills propose, please check out vaib.org and be prepared to fight them once they are again proposed.
If the news headlines from this week have been unnerving to you, you are not the only one. Lying has become acceptable, even expected, in media and in politics (“He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.” Prov. 18:13) Cursing, vulgarity, and racial slurs have become easier to swallow than common Biblical principles (“A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.” Prov. 18:6). To legally allow and promote the dismemberment of a fully-formed child in the womb has become the face of progress, heroism, and human rights. The most obvious and basic human fact, that we are born male and female, is now an unconcluded matter to our philosophers and intellectuals (“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise...” 1 Cor. 1:27). Maybe a fire has been ignited in your heart to do something to make a difference! We can rally, and we can volunteer at good organizations, but the single most important thing that we can do is to share the gospel with the people that God bring into your path! You cannot sway the court’s decision, and you cannot change the way the news is told, but you can help to change America one life at a time! That is the ONLY way that it can be done. We may not understand how someone can think the way they do, but God can “transform” them “by the renewing of your mind.” “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Rom. 10:17. We cannot skip this step in order to bring about a spiritual change in our families, communities, and nation. 2 Peter 1:5-7 reminds us that to achieve brotherly kindness and charity, we must start with faith and then add virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, and godliness. The ending result then would be brotherly kindness and charity. These are all signs of the kind of maturity that we are not seeing much of in the world and even among each other. So today, let’s make a difference! Share the gospel!
The State Senate votes today to expand Legal gambling in Virginia. Please follow the link and message them to vote “no”. Pray that these bills will be defeated!
Resolving conflict in our homes, churches, and workplaces can be quite a challenge. Bitter feelings, tears, grudges, breakups, church splits, and hundreds of dollars spent on counseling show that we as Christians have forgotten the Biblical and time-tested way of settling and even preventing this conflict. Proverbs 13:10 says, “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.” Starting from a position of humility in each of our relationships is the foundation. Not assuming that your point of view or opinion is supreme requires that we swallow a horse-pill sized amount of humility. Caring more for “why” someone feels the way they do and choosing to listen to them reveals understanding and leads to the resolution of conflict. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us that “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” To respond softly and kindly indicates that you are not allowing feelings to dictate your “reaction”, but instead appropriately “responding” in such a way that you are attempting to discern the root cause of the conflict and Biblically resolve the conflict. Take these verses of Bible wisdom with you today as you maintain and even strengthen your relationships at home, church, and anywhere else!
Looks like it’s supposed to snow while we’re at church and everything will refreeze. Stay home tonight and stay safe and we’ll see you all Wednesday night!
We will not be having morning services today. Depending on when the snow quits, we may have an evening service at 6:30. Stay tuned!
This little boy is having fun shoveling out the church parking lot. Daddy’s having fun too!
We had a great service this morning! Thanks to all who came out despite the snowfall. The roads were pretty rough on the way home and we should still get several more inches today, so, this evening’s service will be cancelled. Stay safe and I’ll see you on Wednesday!
The leaves have gone, and the first snow has fallen.
I’m looking forward to meeting together in God’s house this Sunday morning! I hope to see you there!
Please pray for Susie McCulley. She is in Augusta Health and will be undergoing a heart catheterization tomorrow morning to check for blockages. She is scheduled to have pacemaker surgery on Thursday if all goes well tomorrow morning.
SBC family: I hope you’ve been keeping up with your Bible reading schedule! If so, you have just read this passage this morning. On Sunday morning, come and hear a sermon from this passage entitled “Bringing Peter Back.”
I hope to see you out this evening for our midweek service! 2 Tim. 3:16-17, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
Thank you Danny and Tim George for mowing the grass, it looks great!
